The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) have announced their latest list for updated player contract list for the 2022-23 season with some big changes this time around. While some names have received a promotion in BCCI’s new list, others have been demoted or removed from the list of centrally contracted players.

The recent announcement of the Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the 2022-23 season by the Board of Control for Cricket in India has drawn much attention. The payment structure for the players has been divided into four grades, with A+ being the highest and C the lowest.

The top players of the Indian cricket team like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja have been placed in the Grade A+ category, with a payment of INR 7 Cr. Other notable players like Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, and Rishabh Pant have been placed in the Grade A category, with a payment of INR 5 Cr.

The payment structure indicates that the Indian cricket board is focusing on rewarding performance and consistency. Players who have consistently performed well have been placed in the higher payment categories, while those who are still establishing themselves in the team have been placed in the lower categories. This structure also encourages players to work harder and strive for excellence, as they can see the rewards for their efforts.

There have been notable changes in this year’s BCCI central contract list as Ravindra Jadeja has been bumped up to the A+ category joining the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. Limited over superstars Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav have also seen a rise. All-rounder Axar Patel has also seen a rise as the player has now been bumped to A Grade after being in the B Grade category last time around.

Not all players have however been rewarded as some names have seen themselves fall down the pecking order with the most prominent name being KL Rahul who has been sent down to B Category due to his inconsistent run as of late. There have been some names that have missed out on a BCCI central contract despite being a part of the team with Umran Malik and Ruturaj Gaikwad being some notable mentions as these players were a part of the national side for two different tours or more.
