In one of those rare errors, BCCI commits a blunder while selecting squads for Duleep Trophy 2018. They included a player who is currently serving 8-month ban which is to be ended on coming September.

The Punjabi cricketer, Abhishek Gupta is the player who has been included in the side. He tested positive for Dope Tests during the last year’s domestic tournament and was handed an 8-month ban.

Akshay Wadkar replaces Abhishek Gupta:

Despite serving the ban, he was named in the India Red squad for the upcoming Duleep trophy. However, the Anti-Doping unit took the news to the selectors who announced the replacement immediately.

In a statement released by BCCI, it read that the selectors have replaced MR Abhishek Gupta with MR Akshay Wadkar in the India Red side for the imminent Duleep Trophy. They also mentioned the alertness of Anti-Doping Team as well.

“It was brought to notice by the BCCI Anti-Doping team that Mr Abhishek Gupta who was initially added in the India Red squad is serving an 8-month ban for a doping violation. The senior selection committee has reached a consensus that Mr Akshay Wadkar will be included in the India Red team as Mr.Akshay Wadkar will be included in the India Red team as Mr Gupta’s replacement,” said the BCCI.

Back in June, Abhishek was handed an eight-month suspension for an “inadvertent” doping violation. The 27-year-old’s suspension began from January 15 and will end on September 14

Mukund, Parthiv and Faiz Fazal to lead Duleep Trophy squads:

Recently, BCCI named the squads for the significant trophy in the domestic circuit. Vidarbha’s cricketer Faiz Fazal will lead Indian Blue side while Gujarat’s skipper, Parthiv Patel will captain Indian Green team.

The remaining Indian Red side in which the replacement has been announced will be led by Tamil Nadu’s Abhinav Mukund. All in all, BCCI named the balanced squads for the trophy and the contests are going to be the thrillers.
