The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Nuwan Seneviratne as the team’s Assistant fielding coach as per reports in BCCI website.

The former Sri Lankan fielding coach will start his contract with the Indian team from the upcoming Asia Cup 2018 which is slated to begin on 15th September in the UAE.

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old Seneviratne will continue his services with the Indian team till the end of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. Earlier Seneviratne had worked with Sri Lankan Cricket for close to a decade. Meanwhile, he has also worked with the national team’s fielding coach on numerous occasions.

His appointment might surely help India improve their fielding. They have been sensational in ground fielding. However, when it comes to catches, they haven’t been the best. Even in the Test series against England, India was brilliant as far as ground fielding was concerned.

However, when it came to slip catching, in particular, they were found wanting. The only plus for India in the slip cordon was KL Rahul who bagged several catches during the five-match series.

India lost the Test series against England by a 1-4 margin

Meanwhile, India lost the Test match series in England by a 1-4 margin, as they were defeated in the final Test by 118 runs.

It was a great performance by the hosts all through the series. India competed very well for the majority of the series. However, when it came to crucial moments and executing them, they were found quite short and eventually lost the series hands down.

The visiting team was in a winning position in the first and the 4th Tests. However, they failed to chase the targets of 183 and 245 which eventually gave England victories by 31 and 60 runs in first and fourth Test respectively.

On the final day of the series, it was two special knocks from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant which turned the game on its head. They smashed centuries and shared a mammoth stand of 204-run. However, after their dismissals, England finished off the Indian tail and won by 118 runs.
