BCCI has no concrete back-up plan at place for the 2020-21 domestic season after the start has been marred due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. BCCI has rested its weightage on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 which is postponed indefinitely under the ‘wait and watch’ policy with a plan for the domestic season still to be charted out.
BCCI’s general manager Saba Karim is certain that they will organize as many matches as possible in the forthcoming season amid all the challenges imposed due to the widespread of the novel coronavirus.
Saba Karim: No back-up plan, still some time
BCCI seems to be in no rush with the domestic season as Saba Karim asserted though there is no concrete plans as of now they are taking it month by month, adding there is still some time. He, however, said that it is difficult to assure it the domestic season will clash with the IPL 2020.
“There are no concrete back-up plans as of now. There is still some time and we are taking month by month,” Karim told PTI.
“It is difficult to talk about it at this stage
“Whatever window is available, we will try to organise maximum number of matches,” he added.
On the contrary, cricket will be leading the sport re-opening plan in England, the country’s cricket governing board claimed on Sunday. The board had banned competitive cricket in the county till July 1 but as England plans to resume sporting events, cricket has been asked to lead the way, according to the chief executive of the board Tom Harrison.
However, a firm decision on resuming the sport season in England is yet to be taken, as everything is on the speculatory stage. According to reports, the Premier League is eyeing a resumption on June 8, behind closed doors and will reach towards the fag end of the tournament by July 27.
