The MSK Prasad-led national selection panel has done its job really well. While some of its decisions have attracted widespread criticism, overall the panel has done a fine job. The current selection panel was appointed in 2016 and since then Team India’s performance has been truly remarkable.

In the 2016-17 home season, India had defeated New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia in home Test series. They had also beaten England and New Zealand in the ODIs. In 2017, India made it to the final of the Champions Trophy. The last one-and-a-half year has been even more successful.

In the last one year or so, India won ODI series in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The team also won Tests in South Africa, England before registering the country’s first-ever Test series win in Australia earlier this year. On their recent overseas tour, they blanked West Indies across formats.

India beat the Caribbean outfit 3-0 in T20Is, 2-0 in ODIs and 2-0 in Tests. Moreover, the MSK Prasad-led selection panel has formed a very solid bench strength for the team across formats. That the likes of Rohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav and even Ravichandran Ashwin are warming the bench in Tests tells the story of how strong the bench is.
