BCCI Elections Postponed To October 23rd From October 22nd - CoA Chief Vinod Rai

The elections have been postponed from October 22nd to October 23rd, as the state elections
Of Haryana and Maharashtra are colliding with the BCCI Elections. The CoA chief Vinod Rai revealed to the PTI media people on Tuesday.

Both the states will be voting on October 21 in a single-phase elections and to ensure that voter members from the two units are not inconvenienced, the Cricket Board poll, which was to be held on October 22, has been postponed by a day.

We have extended the BCCI election date – Vinod Rai

October 23 will be the last day for Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) in office, chief Vinod Rai confirmed on Thursday. Another CoA member Diana Edulji said while she is “against any delay in conducting the BCCI elections”, she understands that a day’s extension is due to state polls.

The CoA has advised the electoral officers of the State Associations not to re-amend their constitutions approved by it based on the Supreme Court order of August 9, 2018.

‘Yes, after keeping in mind the assembly election dates of Maharashtra and Haryana, we have extended the BCCI election date from October 22nd to 23rd. People would have difficulty in reaching us so that is why we have pushed the election date by one day,” Rai told PTI.

“Yes, you have seen the similar CoA working in DDCA and they demitted the office right after the election, where is the scope for CoA after the election is over and set of office-bearers is being elected,” he said.

The CoA, in its appeal to the apex court, has also submitted the status of agreement of 38 state units of BCCI. There are 24 full members, who have registered their respective constitutions as per CoA’s approval. Three members — Railways, Services and Universities — will have an authorised representative as per the BCCI constitution.

The CoA has been controlling the game since January 2017 and was mandated to execute the administrative improvements recommended by the Justice (Retd) R M Lodha committee. The BCCI elections will mark an end to the tenure of the Supreme Court-appointed CoA.
