BCCI Informed MS Dhoni Before Dropping Him From Central Contract List: Report

The cricketing fraternity may be surprised with MS Dhoni’s exclusion from BCCI’s central contract list but the update would not have surprised Dhoni himself. As per a report in PTI, he was duly informed about the same by BCCI’s  office-bearers and was told that he cannot be included on the list.

Dhoni ‘s absence does suggest that he might not play any international game for next couple of months but as noted by head coach Ravi Shastri, he will be an automatic selection in the T20 World Cup squad if he does well in IPL. 2020

“Let me clarify that one of the top-most BCCI office-bearers spoke to MS and told him about how they are going about in the central contracts. He was clearly told that since he hasn’t played any game in the said period (September 2019 till date), he cannot be included for the time being,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Dhoni hasn’t played any competitive match since World Cup 2019. He first took a rest for the West Indies tour and later missed South Africa, Bangladesh, West Indies (at home) and Sri Lanka series. He isn’t a part of the squad for New Zealand tour as well and looks set to miss the next home series too.

But as confirmed, he does not have retirement plans for now and the fans will wait till IPL. Dhoni, if he returns, will incur a loss of Rs 4 Crore as he will be paid Rs 1 Crore  – the rules suggest so.

Apart from Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Ambati Rayudu and Khaleel Ahmed were also dropped from the central contract list. Karthik and Rayudu are unlikely to make a comeback while Khaleel can be back in the squad if he does well.

The players in A+ grade – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah – will earn Rs 7 Crore while players in Grade A will earn Rs 5 Crore. Five players included in Grade B will be getting Rs 3 Crore while players in Grade C will earn Rs 1 Crore.
