The Apex Council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the office-bearers to take the decision on the participation of retired players in foreign leagues as reported by Cricbuzz. The board officials met in Mumbai today (7th July) to discuss a few agendas.

The participation of retired players in foreign leagues was one of the talking points of the meeting. The governing body doesn’t allow the players to take part in foreign leagues until and unless and have announced their retirement from Indian cricket.

But of late after Ambati Rayudu retired from the IPL and India and signed a contract with Texas Super Kings in the Major League Cricket, BCCI has come under a bit of pressure. Because might tempt other players to announce retirement and take part in the foreign leagues as well.

It was expected that a decision related to that will come up today but BCCI decided to empower the office bearers to take calls. It remains to be seen what will be the decision but the governing body might likely impose the condition of an NOC for the players.

BCCI officials think into the matter so that they can safeguard the standard of domestic cricket and prevent any potential erosion caused by the proliferation of T20 franchise cricket, which may result in premature retirements among players.

BCCI approves impact Player rule in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – Reports

Apart from this, BCCI also discussed the impact player rule in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and it had a positive response. The governing body has approved the rule as was in IPL in the domestic tournament.

The impact player rule was introduced in the tournament last year but it came into effect only after the 14th over. But in IPL it was different as teams had to name four players at the toss and then opt for anyone at any stage of the game. Based on how it was used in IPL it will be used in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which will begin from 16th October.
