Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly not shown any eagerness to extend the traditional four-Test series Down Under as proposed by Cricket Australia (CA). The cricket board, however, is mulling on the idea but thinks that it might be tough on the players and will need a lot of re-scheduling to be done.

Australia and India have been fierce rivalries. After the traditional Ashes, the Test series between Australia and India, holds a major significance. It also pulls major crowd from both the countries as two of the best cricketing nation in history, traditionally crosswords for a four-Test series.

The traditional four-Test contest, has been proposed to be expanded to five-match series, from next summer if things go as per plan. Cricket Australia chief executive Kevin Roberts had said that he wants to stage a series in association with BCCI which can inspire the cricket world.

“We won’t rule anything out in terms of the Indian series. Along with the BCCI and Indian players, we want to stage a series that inspires the cricket world, whether or not there are people in the stands,” he said. “We need to face into all possibilities. Fortunately, we have a little bit of time to work out scenarios.”

BCCI: Five-Test series will be tough on players

The international calendar and FTP will need to be re-worked if the four-Test series Down Under is to be extended. It will also mean India will tour Australia for an additional six-seven days. A source in the know of things, told The Telegraph, there is no certainty on a final decision but there are still discussions going on looking at the possibilities and an agreement could be reached soon.

“A four-Test series has been discussed and agreed upon for some time. Now suddenly if CA decides upon an extra Test, it will be tough on our players and also lead to issues related to logistics,” someone in the know of things told The Telegraph.

“The international calendar and the Future Tours Programme will have to be reworked in the light of the current situation. A five-Test series will mean extending India’s tour by another 6-7 days at least which will have an impact on the planning of other series.

“Discussions are still on and we could reach an agreement soon. We are going ahead hoping that the tour will take place and have to keep everyone’s interests in mind.”

India beat Australia Down Under the last time both the sides faced-off. It was the first Test series win on the Australian soil for India and captain Virat Kohli.
