The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday, paid a touching tribute to Team India’s superfan Charulata Patel who passed away on January 13 aged 87. The news was confirmed by her official Instagram handle. Charulata Patel had won almost everyone’s heart with her enthusiasm and passion for cricket during last year’s World Cup. She became an instant hero after attending Team India’s match against Bangladesh.

Donning a tricolour scarf, and with a bright yellow vuvuzela and a flag in hand, Charulata Patel was spotted celebrating every run. She was so enthusiastic that the cameramen could not help but constantly show her on the screen. Not only the fans but the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were also bowled away by her enthusiasm.

In fact, after the match against Bangladesh ended, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had walked up to her to seek her blessings. Both the cricket stars were seen talking to her and Virat Kohli even promised to pay for her match tickets. Soon after the match, Kohli had also taken to Twitter to thank Charulata Patel. Later, Pepsi had roped her as the face of their swag campaign. Pepsi were running the ‘Swag’ ad campaign for the ICC World Cup 2019.

And as tributes are flowing in from all corners for Charulata Patel, the BCCI also made sure to do their bit. BCCI’s official Twitter handle paid a glowing tribute to the fan who stole everyone’s heart, writing:

“#TeamIndia’s Superfan Charulata Patel ji will always remain in our hearts and her passion for the game will keep motivating us. May her soul rest in peace”
