In recent times, there have been calls from several quarters to reduce the captaincy load on Virat Kohli and introduce split captaincy. Indian cricket is seemingly not a fan of split captaincy. Virat Kohli had taken over as Test captain only after MS Dhoni had retired from the longest format of the game. Prior to that, Dhoni was the main man across formats.

Virat Kohli has been leading the team across formats since Dhoni stepped down as T20I and ODI captain at the start of 2017. But given the busy schedule in recent times, there have been calls to relieve Virat Kohli of some load. The likes of England, Australia and most recently South Africa and Pakistan have named different captains for different formats.

Rohit Sharma is being seen as an ideal candidate to replace Virat Kohli as T20I captain. The Mumbai star has already led India on a number of occasions and has a great track record. Recent reports also suggest that he would lead India in the upcoming series against Bangladesh as Virat Kohli will be given some much-needed rest.

While the former India skipper did not speak much on it, he made it clear that the final decision will be taken by the selectors. He also hinted that India do not need different captains at the moment because they are one of the best sides in the world.
