At a time when everyone is busy talking about the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big decision by sensationally dropping Sanjay Manjrekar from its commentary team.

While Sanjay Manjrekar divides opinion like no other commentator in the world, it is safe to say that he is one of the most popular commentators in world cricket. The Indian cricket dropped him from the panel before the start of the recently-postponed ODI series between India and South Africa.

The decision went noticed because the first ODI in Dharamsala got washed out. According to Mumbai Mirror, Sanjay Manjrekar was not in Dharamsala while all the other BCCI panel commentators, including Sunil Gavaskar, L Sivaramakrishnan and Murali Kartik were present.

Sanjay Manjrekar was on the circuit for a long time. The former India batsman was part of the commentary panel for the last three World Cups and almost all ICC events since bringing down curtains on his illustrious career. However, the BCCI is not too impressed with his services in recent times.

The report further stated that the board is also planning not to include him in the IPL commentary panel. While the BCCI or Sanjay Manjrekar are yet to give an update on the latest turn of events, the news outlet quoted a BCCI source as saying that the ex-cricketer has been excluded from the panel.

“Maybe he will be left out from the IPL panel too. At this stage it is not on top of our mind. But the fact is they are not happy with his work,” said the source.

Sanjay Manjrekar did land in a few big controversies last year because of his comments. The first big controversy happened in the World Cup when he called Ravindra Jadeja a bits and pieces cricketer before the latter shut him down with a sensational performance against New Zealand in the semifinal and then slammed him on Twitter. Later, he was involved in a heated on-air tussle with fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle.
