Irani Cup To Take Place Behind Closed Doors, Confirms BCCI

It was a day in which some of the biggest sporting events in the country faced a significant shift in their schedule and in terms of viewers. After the postponement of the thirteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the ODI series against South Africa, BCCI has also announced regarding the Irani Cup. The Irani Cup would take place as per the schedule; however, it would involve no spectators.

Earlier, the BCCI declared that the final day of the Ranji Trophy would be held behind closed doors. It transpired successfully as Saurashtra beat Bengal to claim their maiden Ranji title in Rajkot. The game between Saurashtra and the Rest of India, consisting of India hopefuls would take place at the Saurashtra Cricket Association from the 18th to 22nd of March, as confirmed by BCCI’s General Manager.

“Yes, the match would be held, but the spectators wouldn’t be allowed,” BCCI’s Saba Karim said as quoted by Times of India.

In the last few days, plenty of occasions all over the globe, not only in the sporting world but also in other fields have plunged to chaos. In the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, the government of all the nations have resorted to extreme measures to curb the damage as far as possible.

As far as cricket is concerned, the first ODI between Australia and New Zealand on Friday was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground without spectators. The English Cricket Board (ECB) also called off the upcoming two-Test series between Sri Lanka and England in Sri Lanka. The same has been postponed to an unannounced later date.
