BCCI To Announce The Name Of India's Next Head Coach On Friday Evening

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited fresh applications for the post of the head coach and the support staffs. The date of submitting the applications came to an end on July 31, and the apex body has shortlisted six candidates including incumbent coach Ravi Shastri. They have forwarded the names of the candidates to three-member ad-hoc panel led by Kapil Dev, who will reveal the name of India’s next head coach later today.

Shastri likely to retain his job

The tenure of the current crop of support staffs came to an end after the end of the ICC World Cup 2019. However, BCCI decided to extend their job for 45 more days till the end of the tour of West Indies. India have been in excellent form against the Caribbeans and have already sealed the limited-overs series’ without losing a game. They will be keen to keep up the excellent form and make a winning start to the World Test Championship during the two-match Test series.

Meanwhile, popular perception says that incumbent head coach Ravi Shastri is likely to retain his chair for another term. One of the members of the ad-hoc panel, Anshuman Gaekwad, has already batted for Shastri saying that he has done an excellent job and there is no need for a change in that position. Former India all-rounder, who joined the team in 2017, has enjoyed great success. Under his tenure, India have made it to the top of the Test rankings, while they occupied the second spot in the ODIs. As a result, he is likely to retain his job.

The Cricket Advisory Committee has already begun interviewing the candidates for the role from 10:30 AM. Shastri, who is currently in the West Indies with the Indian team, is likely to make his presentation and give his interview over Skype at around 4 pm on Friday evening. With only six candidates called for the interview, the process will get over by today, and the announcement is also likely to take place today.

Apart from Ravi Shastri, BCCI has shortlisted Tom Moody, Mike Hesson, Phil Simmons, Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput for the role.
