England is in bits and pieces, and their chances of making a comeback in the Ashes took yet another hit as the news of Ben Duckett facing a disciplinary action over an alcohol-related issue in Perth broke out. The southpaw has played in 4 Tests for the national team is currently in Australia and was scheduled to play a warm-up game for an England XI over the course of the weekend. However, when the incident was reported he was subsequently dropped from the side to play the Cricket Australia XI. His place went to Joe Clarke of Worcestershire.

Some of the details of the particular incident are still unclear, but as per sources it is being learnt that Duckett poured a drink over a senior member of the England side following an argument, There was involvement with anyone outside the England squads and no police has been or will be involved in the recent future. It is also learnt that the security team of England were also present with the players throughout the incident.

Meanwhile, if you look at the incident it would have been laughed off a decade or two ago, but given the current atmosphere, it will be viewed differently. Moreover, it has come between a tour which has already been marred by the investigation procedure of Ben Stokes while Jonny Bairstow was alleged of headbutting an opposition player in Perth. The England team management has been at dagger’s end to make the players know that no semblance of poor behaviour will be tolerated. England going down 0-2 in the series won’t help their cause either.

Eventually, the incident might lead to the ouster of Duckett from the Lions Tour, and it can be presumed that his future English selection will not be entertained. With ECB battling to restore their pride and reputation it will make no compromises with fringe players who they feel cannot be trusted to behave properly.

The investigation process is led by Andy Flower the coach of the Lions and Trevor Bayliss, the England coach and their involvement mean that other players could well be dragged into the spotlight. It also goes on to convince the management that the recent curfew imposed is very necessary. The curfew has been relaxed after the incident occurred on an opening day.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that Duckett is a promising young batsman at the age of 23 who has slowly come into the limelight for all the wrong reasons. He became the first-ever player to bag the PCA’s Player of the year and Young Player of the year awards simultaneously. He made his Test and limited overs debut against Bangladesh at the end of that year.
