England all-rounder Ben Stokes played the best knock of his life to help his side clinch the maiden ICC World Cup title beating New Zealand on the Super Over boundary count at Lord’s on Sunday. Days after helping his team lift the trophy; the swashbuckling opener credited his teammates and support staffs for putting in an outstanding effort throughout the competition.

Chasing 241 runs set by New Zealand on a difficult Lord’s wicket, Ben Stokes remained unbeaten on 84 runs to take the game to the tie-breaker on a difficult Lord’s wicket. He shared an excellent partnership with Jos Buttler after England was in trouble losing a few wickets early. But Stokes shouldered the responsibility and played with the maturity to take the game deep before it ended in a draw.

Much to the amusement of the cricket lovers and former cricketers, two teams couldn’t be separated even after the Super Over. Ben Stokes once again starred in the Super Over helping the host posts 15 runs before the Black Caps put up the exact score with a few blows fro Jimmy Neesham. But England took away the trophy on the Super Over boundary count – the rule which earned a lot of criticisms after the game.

Ben Stokes, who is likely to receive the Knighthood for his brilliance in the World Cup, credited his teammates and support staffs for working hard and letting their dream come true. He also added that playing team sports is an outstanding feeling as one can share so many memories. Stokes will next feature during the upcoming Ashes series starting from August 1 at Edgbaston.
