Overseas tours and injuries seem like the best combo in the Indian cricket. Whenever India prepares for the abroad tour, the damage has always dented India badly. This time, it strikes again in the form of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.

Apart from all the previous tours, the Indians looked confident this time looking after their pace quadrant. But, unfortunately, India lost the services of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah due to injuries before the five-match Test series against England, starting August 1st.

Ishant Sharma will be the key for India – Madan Lal

Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer, Madan Lal boosts some positive energy to the team. He feels one Bhuvneshwar or Bumrah can’t win the series for Virat Kohli; it is the team which does.

Madan Lal puts his money on Ishant Sharma to do the job. The lanky pacer had a stellar season in his county stint and had gained a huge experience under his belt. Madan Lal feels Ishant should take a lead role in the destruction.

“One Kumar or one Bumrah doesn’t win you a 5-game series. You need all the bowlers to fire as a unit. There is no scope of putting the foot off the pedal even for one session. The fast bowlers will also need to ensure that they build enough pressure for the spinners to come in and strangle the English batsmen and spin a web over the hosts,” Lal said.

“He has played county cricket during the IPL and he clearly knows the areas to bowl in when the captain hands you the ball in England. He needs to focus on the right areas and get the ball to seam off the wicket. If he can bring the county experience into his game, Virat Kohli will have a smile on his face,” he added to his lines.

A series has to be won by the whole bowling unit: Madan Lal

Lal went on to add the individual brilliance will never help India in winning the series anywhere. He wants all the fast bowlers to fire in the unison to see something exceptional.

Apart from the fast bowlers, Madan strongly feels the spinners will play a vital role in India’s chance to win the series. The conditions in England have been different to the past which might work in India’s favour.

“The heat wave has ensured that the pitches will be dry and take a turn. But then, they can come into the game only after the fast bowlers have done a tidy job. The England batsmen will find the going tough against the Indian spinners, and they must take advantage of that and keep piling the pressure. But like I said at the start, individual brilliance might win you a game, it won’t win you a series. A series has to be won by the whole bowling unit,” he inferred as was quoted by Madan Lal.

All in all, it is going to be an exciting contest to watch. It would be interesting to see the combination with which Virat Kohli and management goes for.
