Big Bash League 2018: Mujeeb Ur Rahman Signs With Brisbane Heat

Afghanistan mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has signed with Brisbane Heat for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League 2018-19. Rahman has been the cynosure of all eyes since he has set foot at the International stage. The 18-year old is going to add an extra spark to the Australian Twenty20 league. In fact, the prodigy spinner has already played in the big leagues like the Indian Premier League and England T20 Blast.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been right on the money with his variations. The young spinner has a plethora of arrows in his quiver and he knows which one he should take out at what situation of the match. Thus, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been able to bamboozle the best batsmen at the topmost stage.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman has shown the right promise.

Mujeeb said that it was his dream to represent his country, play in the IPL and Big Bash. The youngster has already ticked the first two on his list and he will be able to mark the third one as well.

“Once I played for the country I dreamed of playing in the IPL, county cricket and the Big Bash. I have been able to achieve the first two so this is very exciting for me. I am looking forward to meeting up with everyone at the Heat and playing in Australia,” Mujeeb said.

Therefore, Mujeeb becomes the second overseas player for Brisbane Heat after former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum, who also leads the franchise.

Meanwhile, every BBL team can afford to have two overseas players in their 18-member squad. Furthermore, they can have two replacement for the two foreign players. Rahman is currently plying on his trade with his Brisbane Heat teammate Ben Cutting who is leading him in the Afghanistan Premier League.

Vettori is pleased to get a player like Mujeeb.

Brisbane Heat head coach Daniel Vettori is excited to have a talent like Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the team.

“Mujeeb is a rare talent and we’re delighted he is going to play in the BBL for the first time. From what we have seen so far at International level and in competitions like the IPL and the Vitality T20 Blast in England, he has the skills and maturity to adapt and excel in a variety of conditions.

“He has been successful in the powerplay and closing out an innings, so we will have options to explore depending on the state of the game. At this stage we anticipate having him for the entire BBL which is a bonus,” concluded Vettori.
