Biju George served a two-year stint as India women’s fielding coach. He brought forward several changes in the training which yielded quick results. In the build-up towards betterment, George identified players best-suited to field at different positions and trained them accordingly as an individual and an unit. As a result, the national women’s team players saw how much difference ‘good fielding’ can create in a match and were enthusiastic to give their best.

In an exclusive interview with CricketAddictor, Biju George named the most fittest cricketers in the India women’s cricket team besides describing the gulf in class between India and Australian women’s cricketers.

The fitness level of the women’s cricketers has been addressed on priority basis. Former India women’s fielding coach Biju George named Harmanpreet Kaur, Sushma Verma and Deepti Sharma among the most fittest players in the side.

“Will be a toss up between Harmanpreet Kaur, Sushma Verma and Deepti Sharma,” Biju George told CricketAddictor.

The girls from Australia, England, West Indies, South Africa, NZ are taller and stronger than us, so their reach is more and they cover more distance than us, for eg to cover the same distance an Ellyse Perry does in two steps, Poonam Yadav has to take 5.. this results in slightly more gaps in field setting and they can reach for a catch which will be away or needs a dive from an Indian fielder,” he added.

George is currently with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) as their fielding coach for the IPL 2020 season and awaits the pandemic season to normalise and step in to the field to train the likes of Kane Williamson and David Warner.
