Former India captain Bishen Singh Bedi urged Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to takeover Blind Cricket under its fold. Meanwhile, Government of India doesn’t recognise Cricket Association for Blind in India (CABI).
Meanwhile, India won the Blind Cricket World Cup this year beating Pakistan in an exciting encounter by two wickets. Further, India also won the title in 2014. Following this year’s victory, former cricketers urged BCCI to recognise blind cricket.
BCCI should bring CABI under its fold:
Bedi was present at an event to felicitate the World Cup winners. Addressing the IndusInd Bank Blind Cricket Conclave, Bedi urged BCCI to bring blind cricket under its fold.
“I would expect the BCCI to take CABI under its fold and give all the assistance they require,” Bedi said. “You all are inspiration for millions. You all have shown that even if you don’t have eyesight, you can have vision,” he added.
Bedi cited examples of Tiger Pataudi, who played international cricket after losing his an eye due to a car accident.
“Tiger lost eyesight before he made his Test debut. He hated if anyone sympathized with him. Tiger never considered it as a physical disability and went on to become India’s finest captain. He was a Nawab but never behaved like one,” Bedi said
Former India cricketer Syed Kirmani also recollected how passion and power enabled him to be a part of the national team. Former India cricketer Chetan Chauhan, currently Minister of Sports and Skill Development in Uttar Pradesh also offered full support to the Indian blind team in providing them jobs.
Meanwhile, Ajay Jadeja talked about spreading blind cricket to every part of the country. Also, he wanted authorities to encourage blind children to take up any sports.
