First Order of business for the Indian owner was a name change and as going forward, the franchise will be known as the Stellenbosch Kings. It will also fall in line with the ownership of Preity in the IPL franchise, Kings XI Punjab. It might be noted here that Punjab has never been able to win the tournament and reached the final of the tournament only once in 2015 when they were eventually beaten by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The fast-paced tournament is scheduled to kick off on 3rd November, and all the eight franchises have been unveiled. The franchise will be led by Faf du Plessis while former Kiwis Skipper and a reputed coach Stephen Fleming will guide the team. It will be a pretty exciting tournament with some of the biggest names participating. Meanwhile, the participation of Pakistan players might be in jeopardy as the Global T20 League might clash with their National T20 Cup which they feel is more important than the South African League.
Meanwhile, another Bollywood actor popularly known as the “Badshah of Bollywood” Shah Rukh Khan has also owned a team in the tournament by the name Cape Town Knight Riders. It is the 3rd team for the veteran actor after owning the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League.
