India, on Wednesday, named Mayank Agarwal as replacement for injured Shikhar Dhawan for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. Shikhar Dhawan has not played a game since injuring himself during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game between Delhi and Maharashtra. At first, it looked like Dhawan would recover in a week’s time but the injury looks serious.

The left-handed batsman has already missed the T20I series against West Indies. He was replaced in the squad by Sanju Samson for the ongoing series. The three-match series is currently locked at 1-1 after West Indies won the second game by eight wickets. The third and final T20I will be played in Mumbai on Wednesday (December 11).

Meanwhil, the BCCI gave an update on Shikhar Dhawan’s injury, stating:

“While Dhawan’s stitches are off and his wound is healing gradually, he still needs some more time before he regains full match fitness.”

Mayank Agarwal, meanwhile, has earned his second call up from the ODI side. He had earned his first ODI call-up during the World Cup as replacement for injured Vijay Shankar but did not play any game. The right-hander has already sealed a spot in the Test side and the team-management is perhaps keen on seeing him replicate the same performance in ODIs too.

He, however, is unlikely to open the innings against West Indies. KL Rahul is likely to partner Rohit Sharma at the top of the batting order. Meanwhile, after the three T20Is, both the teams will lock horns in as many ODIs. The three ODIs will be played in Chennai (December 15), Visakhapatnam (December 18) and Cuttack (December 22).

India’s ODI Squad:

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
