When Royal Challengers Bangalore roped in Mike Hesson and Simon Katich as parts of their backroom staff, it looked like they would also change the captain. The reason was Virat Kohli’s unimpressive track record as a captain in IPL. Despite having the luxury of some of the biggest names in the game in their ranks over the last 12 years, Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to win the IPL.
Their best result till date is appearing in the final. They made it to the final thrice but ended up on the wrong side of the result on every occasion. And Virat Kohli could not change the team’s fortunes either. Kohli took charge of the team in 2013 after the retirement of Daniel Vettori.
Fast forward to 2019 and the Royal Challengers are still searching for their first IPL title. In fact, the Bangalore-based outfit is one of the most inconsistent teams in the league in the last few years. Ever since Kohli took charge, they made it to the playoffs just once when in 2016 their skipper scored nearly 1,000 runs and led the team to the final.

In the last edition, they had yet another disastrous campaign as they finished at the bottom of the points table with just 5 wins from 14 games. But despite the results in recent years, Royal Challengers Bangalore, on Sunday, confirmed that Kohli would continue to lead the team. The franchise confirmed the news on Twitter.

They have roped in Hesson as the director of cricket operations and have appointed Katich as the head coach. The team will also have the services of former India trainer Shankar Basu, Sridharan Sriram as the spin-bowling coach and Adam Griffith as bowling coach.
