Brendon McCullum Looking To Include Shubman Gill Within The KKR Leadership Group In IPL 2020

Brendon McCullum, former New Zealand skipper and the current head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, is looking to include a few more players into the leadership group of the side in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

And, one player that he has specifically singled out is the precociously talented Shubman Gill.

Gill has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders outfit since 2018. The right-handed Punjab batsman scored 296 runs from 14 games last season.

“What a talent, and what a good guy as well. He is going to be a part of our leadership group this year as well, at least in some capacity. Even though he is young, I am a big believer that it’s not necessarily true that you having played for a long time makes you a good leader.” Brendon McCullum said on Knights Unplugged.

The decision-making within the KKR camp was a subject of discussion last year, with all-rounder Andre Russell openly expressing his disappointment in the press-conference.

‘But with Eoin Morgan set to be the vice-captain to Dinesh Karthik in the upcoming edition, Brendon McCullum feels it is a match ‘made in heaven’

“I think he’s the perfect foil for DK as a vice captain. It’s a match made in heaven in regards to an IPL franchise. You’ve got that overseas experience and leadership and you’ve got the local leader. I think it’s a really nice mix,” McCullum added.

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League will take place in the United Arab Emirates between September 19-November 10.
