West Indies National Cricket Team will begin their journey against Team India later today at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Former legend Brian Lara wants the Caribbeans to finish the tour as a better side. Notably, the West Indies side has struggled to deliver the expected result in recent times including a poor outing in the ICC World Cup 2019 in England.

The team under the leadership of new skipper Kieron Pollard looked good in the recent series against Afghanistan. West Indies team is India for almost over a month playing against the Afghans at the Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow. Although they won the ODI series, the reigning T20I champions went down in the shortest format of the game.

West Indies should go back a better team: Brian Lara

West Indies, who faced humiliating loses four months ago when India tour the country, will look to put up a better show against Virat Kohli & Co. And Brian Lara wants this side to finish the series as a better team irrespective of whether they win or lose. He also believes Kieron Pollard needs to build a team and backed his appointment as the captain of this team.

“…he (Pollard) will have to build a team…playing against India in India is always a tough proposition, and he must leave here not necessarily winning, but he must leave here a better team after this tournament,” Lara said at an event here.

“Over a period of time, his representation for West Indies may not be a lot, but he has played all around the World in different leagues. He has gained a lot of respect from the opposition. I didn’t see it as a bad decision (to appoint him as a captain),” he added.

Furthermore, Brian Lara feels this West Indies, who have two world title under their belt is a good team and many sides across the globe are scared of them. The Caribbeans will play three T20Is followed by the same number of ODI matches.
