On Monday, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) decided to pay the stipulated prize money to the Bengal State Cricket team. It is long overdue since the ongoing COVID-19 crisis prevented the BCCI from releasing the amount from its coffers. The amount was a whopping INR 1 crore, the delay for which was raised during an online team bonding session with head coach Arun Lal, including other members of the coaching and support staff.

CAB President Avishek Dalmiya stated that the interest of cricketers is of utmost priority to them. Due to the same, they released the amount themselves for the players and support staff instead of waiting for the BCCI.

To us, the interest of our cricketers is paramount. Hence, we decided to release the prize money to the Bengal Senior team on our own and not wait for the Board to release it to us and then reimburse the same to the players and support staffs.” Dalmiya said as quoted by News18.

CAB chief stated that the amount would be released in 48 hours:

Avishek Dalmiya further said that necessary formalities have been completed and that the amounts would reach to the respective bank accounts in the next 48 hours. Dalmiya also confirmed that necessary invoices have been raised to the BCCI too.

The necessary formalities have been completed and documents signed by secretary and treasurer. We expect the amount to reach their bank accounts in the next 48 hours.

Simultaneously, necessary invoices have also been raised to the BCCI so we expect the Prize Money amount to be sent to the Association later this week. Once we receive that, the same would be adjusted against the payments made to the players on account of prize money.” the CAB President acknowledged.
