Indian National Cricket Team legends Virender Sehwag and Anil Kumble had won their country many matches during their cricketing career. Recently, both of them appeared on a show named ‘What the Duck’ to talk about their favourite game. During that candid chat, Sehwag revealed that celebration of Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble’s retirement were bigger than winning the two World Cups in 2007 and 2011.
A career that ran over 18 years, Anil Kumble was an epitome of grit and determination. The way he played the game makes him a legend, and he took India to glory during his time as the India captain. While many tipped MS Dhoni – who succeeded Kumble as the Test skipper to make India the top-ranked Test time, but it was Kumble who laid the seeds. During his tenure, Kumble drew six Test matches and won three and also instilled the urge to win in overseas conditions among the cricketers.

Kumble finally announced his retirement in November 2008 during the third Test against Australia in Delhi. Incidentally, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly also announced his retirement after the fourth Test against the Aussies at Nagpur. India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-0 after massive wins in the second and the fourth Test. Celebrations broke out soon after the Test series, and the players were overwhelmed by their success.
In that chat alongside Anil Kumble, Virender Sehwag admitted that it was one of the greatest days of his career. He also stated that the celebrations they had were much bigger than winning the two World Cup under the leadership of MS Dhoni in 2007 and 2011. The dashing opener also said that he won’t be able to forget that ever because that was one of the strongest teams India have ever had.
