Seeing MS Dhoni playing for any other Indian Premier League (IPL) team other than Chennai Super Kings. The former India skipper’s name is synonymous with the Super Kings and understandably so. He is leading the franchise right from the inaugural season of the league in 2008 and has made the Super Kings one of the most successful sides in the history of the league.

He did play for Rising Pune Supergiant for two years in the middle but only because the Super Kings were serving a suspension. As soon as the suspension ended, MS Dhoni returned to lead the Super Kings and led them to the title to cap off the comeback season in style. Earlier this year, he led Super Kings to another final where they lost to Mumbai Indians.

Overall Dhoni has led the team to three IPL titles as well as the now-scrapped Champions League T20 glory. He has led the three-time IPL winners to the playoffs in each and every season that the franchise has played.  Unsurprisingly, he has a huge fan base in Chennai.

However, recent media reports suggested that MS Dhoni wanted to exit the franchise at the end of the next season. A report in Times of India quoted a source as saying that Dhoni wanted to be released ahead of the 2021 auction.

“He wants to go back to the auction pool for the big auction that will take place ahead of the 2021 season. That will give CSK the option of using the Right-to-Match card to pick him, may be for a lower price. Being the captain he is, Dhoni is ready to sacrifice money for the CSK cause,” the source said.

Chennai Super Kings respond:

Well, the franchise has responded to the rumours and have denied them. Replying to a news of the same rumour on Twitter, the Super Kings made it clear that the rumours are false and Dhoni would stay with them only.

“No, the nation knows that! ?,” wrote the Super Kings.
