The Mzansi Super League is in full flow in South Africa, having already completed half of its games. Chris Gayle, who is one of the hottest properties in T20 franchise cricket around the globe, played his last game of the competition on Sunday and scored a half-century. But it went in vain as Jozi Stars lost the game from a comfortable position to Tshwane Spartans while chasing a score of 156 in 20 overs.

The 40-year old top-scored for the team, crafting a whirlwind innings of 54 off 27 balls that included six fours and four sixes while opening for the team. Nevertheless, Jozi Stars succumbed to a ridiculous collapse, losing their last seven wickets for 13 runs in their next 29 balls. Eventually, they were skittled out for 135 from being 122-3.

With the loss against Spartans, Stars have suffered defeat all their six games in the tournament. Chris Gayle finished the competition with 101 runs in six games at an average of less than 20. The Jamaican hit back on the reporters by saying that he alone is being made the center of attention for the loss of the team. Gayle lashed out against such criticism by remarking that he becomes a burden for the team if he fails on a few occasions.

I am not talking for this team only. This is something I have analysed over the years playing franchise cricket. Chris Gayle is always a burden if I don’t score runs, two, three, four times,” he said. It seems like that one particular individual is the burden for the team. And then you will hear bickering. I am not going to get respect. People don’t remember what you have done for them. I don’t get respect.” Gayle said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Chris Gayle slams team management and players for not having his back:

The explosive left-handed batsman further said that based on his one or two failures, the management and the players decide that he is not fit to play competitive cricket. He stated that he seems to receive no backing and no respect if he ceases to produce the goods on a few occasions. Gayle opined that he wanted to badly win the game as much as the entire team wanted to and he is deeply hurt of not being able to take the team past the finish line.

“And I am not talking about this franchise. I am talking generally. Even from players as well, I am talking. Players, management, head of management, board members. Chris Gayle never get no respect. Once Chris Gayle fails, it’s the end of his career, he is no good, he is the worst player and all these other things. I’ve generally overcome these things and I expect these things and I have lived with these things.”

“It was bad, bad to watch. Everyone will be hurt from such a thing. I am hurt from a personal point of view. I really wanted to win. I thought this was the one but it wasn’t meant to be again.” he further added.
