Chris Lynn to Play in Hong Kong T20 Blitz 2018
Australia star Chris Lynn will be soon seen plying his trade in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz after being snapped up by Hung Hom JD Jaguars for the 2018 edition, starting in February.
The hard-hitting batsman is the first overseas player signed up by the franchise this season. Expressing his delight over signing the deal, the right-handed batsman said he is looking forward to playing in the tournament next year and experience something new.
“I’m really looking forward to coming to Hong Kong next February, I’ve heard great things about the growth of cricket there and look forward to experiencing something new. It’s always exciting to have a new challenge and hopefully I can help the Jaguars lift the trophy. The scores were pretty high last year, so it looks like a very entertaining tournament for the fans,” he said.
The 27-year old, who opted for an operation on his injury-prone shoulder this year to prolong his career, is currently recovering from shoulder surgery and is not expected to be available to play until early next year.
Earlier this year during the Indian Premier League, he had suffered an injury on the same shoulder for the third time in less than two years and had missed most of the matches in the league after setting the stage on fire in the opening game.
But such has been his impact in T20s that Big Bash League franchise Brisbane Heat offered him a lucrative five-year deal which is reportedly the biggest deal in the league’s history so far.
Lynn bagged it after his impressive outings for the Brisbane-based outfit. One of the most sort after hitters in the world cricket at the moment, Lynn has scored 1459 runs for the team at an average of 39.43 and a strike rate of 155.04. His performance in the 2016-17 season was just phenomenal when he scored 309 runs in five innings at an amazing strike rate of 177.58.
Susan Lulla, the Jaguars’ co-owner, expressed his delight over securing Lynn’s services and said:
“Chris Lynn would be an automatic choice in any T20 team, be it international or franchise cricket. We were very keen to bring him to play for us, and the moment we knew he was recovering well from surgery, we wasted no time in signing him up. After picking some of the best bowlers from Hong Kong cricket, we will have an explosive batsman in our top order to further add to our impressive batting lineup.”
