Former India opener and KKR opener Gautam Gambhir backed South Africa all-rounder to be a crucial part in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad for IPL 2020. Morris was bought for INR 10 crore at the IPL 2020 auction by RCB and the onus lies on him now to prove his worth.

Morris featured for the Delhi franchise for a couple of seasons, where he delivered stand-out performances. Gambhir believes that the quality all-rounder will add balance to the RCB squad and take up the role of a finisher as well.

“Chris Morris provides balance to the RCB squad, a quality all-rounder although he has not played much cricket. He can be a finisher as a batsman and can also give you 4 overs and bowl at the death,” Gambhir said in a Star Sports’ show.

RCB has the record of reaching three finals. RCB entered the final match last time in 2016 but since then they have been at the bottom of the table. Moreover, in 2019, the franchise  finished last with just 5 wins from 14 matches.

RCB has been bolstered with plenty of talents in their ranks. However, they have not been able to make the most of it. RCB have played with the likes of Chris Gayle, captain Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers in their side. But their bowling at the same time has been questionable. Mitchell Starc has missed out on playing for the franchise owing to injuries.

Meanwhile, after VIVO pulled out as the sponsors for IPL, Dream 11 bagged the deal for Rs.220 crore for four months. IPL will get underway from September 19 with the final being played on November 10. However, the final fixture for the lucrative tournament is still to be announced, with Mumbai Indians set to put their title on defense.
