New Zealand opening batsman, Colin Munro has signed for the Perth Scorchers for the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL). The destructive opener is one of the most sought after cricketers in the T20 circuit.
Colin Munro has scored over 6000 runs in T20 cricket and has smashed three hundreds for New Zealand– the joint second-highest in T20 internationals. The left-hander had a good outing in the Caribbean Premier League earlier in the year, averaging 34 at a strike rate of 133, winning the tournament with the Trinbago Knight Riders.
It’s going to be pretty special to be part of the Scorchers: Colin Munro
Colin Munro is happy to be part of the three-time BBL champions. He says that it is going to be special playing for a successful franchise like the Perth Scorchers. Munro, who played for Sydney Sixers in 2017, believes that his new team has some top-class players and it will be exciting to play with them. The Scorchers batting which already had Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone, Ashton Tuner is bolstered by the arrival of the 33-year-old kiwi.
Colin Munro said in an official statement, “To jump on board with such a successful, established club that has been playing great cricket since the BBL started was really what appealed to me… it’s going to be pretty special to be part of it.
“The Scorchers have some world-class players in their list so to rub shoulders with them this summer is going to be really exciting.”
Head coach, Adam Voges feels that the Kiwi is an aggressive batsman at the top and has the ability to win them games single-handedly. Voges is looking forward to welcoming the left-hander. Mitchell Marsh will lead Perth Scorchers if he is fit from the injury suffered during the IPL.
“Colin’s naturally aggressive instinct with the bat and ability to take the game away from the opposition quickly will make him an extremely important impact player for us this summer. We look forward to welcoming Colin to the Scorchers,” Adam Voges said.
The 10th edition of the Big Bash League will commence on December 10th with the opening match between defending champions Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes. Colin Munro will be participating in the home T20I series against West Indies starting 27th November followed by another T20I series against Pakistan.
