MS Dhoni is one of the best finishers in the history of cricket. I know you have heard that a million times but the fact of the matter that each and every word of that statement is true to the hilt. During the course of his celebrated fifteen-year-old career, the former Indian captain has time and again proved it to the hilt, whether it is for Team India or his Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings. And, Corey Anderson is the latest to assert the tag on Dhoni being one of the best finishers in history.
Dhoni gave another testimony of the aforementioned fact during the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League in a group-stage fixture against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore. Riding on whirlwind knocks from Quinton de Kock [53] and AB de Villiers [68], the Challengers posted an imposing total of 205 in 20 overs.
The Challengers were looking primed for a win after CSK lost wickets in quick succession and at one stage were reduced to 4-74 in 9 overs. But Dhoni has other plans. Commenting on Dhoni’s onslaught that followed, Anderson said-
“When you uttered his (Dhoni’s) name, I was about to drown myself in my coffee. He is one of the greats of the game, one of the best finishers in the world. Very difficult to bowl to him. I had Virat Kohli at long on, AB de Villiers at long off. They were continuously running in to say what do we do, what was I thinking, what should I do,” Corey Anderson was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
He added: “Even their thoughts were like ‘if you bowl here, he will hit you for a six’ and ‘if you bowl there, he will hit you for a six’. You can subdue the moment. You know that you aren’t the first one, he has done it to every bowler in the world at some point of time,”

Anderson further said that while bowling to the likes of Dhoni can be demoralising for a bowler, it also helps them in improving their game.
“Once you bowl to those guys, it gives you a massive insight to bowl to other guys. You gain confidence once you bowl to these bigger guys like Dhoni. At times, it is demoralising but it can make you a better cricketer,” Anderson said.
“Coming back to the game, MS Dhoni shellacked the RCB bowlers to the tune of 70 off just 34 balls- an innings which included seven sixes and a solitary four. With CSK needing 44 off the last 18 balls, Dhoni and Bravo wrecked havoc with the former finishing off the game in the last over by smoking a six off Anderson.”
