CPL 2018: Despite Chris Gayle's Salvo, Shimron Hetmyer Shines For Guyana Amazon Warriors

Guyana Amazon Warriors started the fifth season of Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2018) on a winning note courtesy Shimron Hetmyer who scored 45-ball 79. They defeated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots comprehensively by six wickets with 21 balls to spare. It was the second match of the ongoing edition held at Providence.

St Kitts while batting first put a total of 146 for five all thanks to the Jamaican Star Chris Gayle. The left-hand, Gayle scored a quickfire knock of 86 with the help of seven boundaries and five sixes.

Chris Green provided an early breakthrough to his team as he sent back opening batsman of Kitts, Even Lewis. Kitts lost their first wicket in the fourth over of the innings as Lewis scored a solitary run.

Gayle along with Tom Copper added 61 partnership for the second wicket that set a platform for the big score. However, soon after Copper lost his wicket, Kitts fell like a pack of cards.

They lost their wickets to lose the plot. Excluding Gayle, no other batsman could cross the mark of 20 runs..

A brief note on a chase:

While chasing a formidable total of 147, Sheldon Cotrell oozed the first drop of blood. He removed Luke Ronchi in the first over of the innings who started this season with a duck.

It was just matter of one delivery after that when the spin sensation from Nepal, Sandeep Lamichanne struck with the ball first in his CPL career. He removed Chadwick Walton who scored mere nine runs.

The new skipper of Guyana Amazon Warriors, Shoaib Malik succumbed to the pressure as well when he gifted his wicket to the Cottrell. Malik scored 14 runs off nine balls.

In the CPL 2018, the opening batsman Shimron Hetmyer along with Jason Mohammed added 62 runs partnership for the fourth wicket. Jason fell after scoring a handy knock of 16 off 18. Green joined the crease, who along with Hetmyer drove Guyana Amazon Warriors towards a six wickets win.

Moreover, Hetmyer’s unbeaten knock included nine fours and four giant sixes.
