Cricket Australia Releases Schedule of the Eighth Edition of Big Bash League

Cricket Australia (CA) has released the schedule of the eight season of the successful professional domestic Twenty20 competition, Big Bash League (BBL).

Australia’s top-notch league will run from December 19, 2018, to February 17, 2019. The two-month-long tournament will be played in a home and away format. Each team will play 14 matches before the kickoff of knockout stages.

In fact, there would be 59 matches in the season eight of the league. Thus there will be 16 matches more than the previous season of the competition.

The defending champions of the seventh season Adelaide Strikers will take on Brisbane Heat in the opener of the tournament on December 19. The first match will take place at Gabba in Brisbane, which is the home ground of the Brisbane Heat.

BBL is one of the best leagues in the world:

Kim McConnie, who is the boss of the BBL maintained tournament is scheduled in such a way which will help in the upliftment of the fast-paced competition.

“The objective of moving the BBL to a full home and away fixture is consistent with Cricket Australia’s strategy of growing the Big Bash and becoming number one for fans across Australia,” Kim McConnie, head of the BBL, said. “With more games, in more locations, we believe this is going to be one of the most exciting, action-packed BBL seasons to-date.

 

“This summer, there will be 56 regular season matches, up from 40 last season, meaning each of the eight teams will play each other twice in addition to the two semi-finals and the final. The season will extend past school holidays. So as, the competition moves into February. There will be more family-friendly timeslots on weekends to help drive participation,” he added.

In fact, the eighth edition of the league will run for 13 more days as compared to the previous season.

Meanwhile, it would be a first time in the tournament folklore, that a BBL match will coincide with Australia’s match. Australia’s day-night match against Sri Lanka will overlap with the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat match, on day four.

Furthermore, Traeger Park in Alice Springs and the UTAS Stadium in Launceston will host matches of the Big Bash League.
