Chennai Super Kings (CSK) performance was up to the mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. A lot of credit goes to the franchise for bouncing back in a grand fashion despite spending two years on the sidelines.

The yellow brigade went on to win their third IPL title. Consequently, they are now tied with Mumbai Indians (MI) for the most number of IPL trophies.

However, some players’ performances were not up to the mark. Thus they can be shown the exit door from the CSK camp.

Meanwhile, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not like to fickle with the winning combination of the team. The core of the team is expected to remain same but there can be minor changes.

In addition, most of the players we are going to select received limited opportunities.

However, IPL is a platform in which you have to grab your chances with both hands. Thus, we have noticed that if a player fails to perform in one match, he has to warm the benches in the following matches and that proved to be a norm.

Let’s take a look at the five Chennai Super Kings’ players who could be axed in next season.

KM Asif:

KM Asif is one of the bowlers who can be released by the Super Kings think tank. As the fast bowler performance was not up to the mark, he can be shown an exit door before the kick off of next edition.

However, Asif didn’t get many chances in the recently-concluded season of the IPL. The right-handed fast bowler only played two matches for the Men in Yellow.

Asif turned out to be expensive in the limited opportunities. The speedster bagged three wickets in the two matches he played. However, he conceded his runs at a higher economy of 12.5.

Dhruv Shorey:

Dhruv Shorey could not make the best first impression in the IPL. The right-handed batsman played only one match in this season.

The 25-year-old Shorey, who plays for Delhi in domestic circuit scored only eight runs on his IPL debut.

It was a perfect opportunity for the young batsman to make a place for himself in a potent team like CSK.

However, Shorey could not get going in his solitary chance. Thus, he can be released by the franchise.

However, the right-handed batter will hope to do better in the next season provided he is kept by the franchise.

Murali Vijay:

Vijay played a solitary match in this season.

Murali Vijay didn’t receive a plethora of chances as the role of openers was well justified by Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson early on. Thus, the flamboyant batsman got one chance to play in this season against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

Vijay, who is a perfect timer of the ball could manage 12 runs in his only outing in the IPL 2018. Thus, Vijay who is 34, can be shown the exit door from the CSK team.

However, CSK and MS Dhoni himself will not like to ignore the experience of the stylish Indian batsman.

Mark Wood:

Mark Wood played in the IPL for the first time. However, he also failed to leave an early impact with the ball for the Super Kings.

The England fast bowler leaked 49 runs in his debut IPL match which turned out to be his last of the season.

Unfortunately, Wood could not make the cut into the playing XI after his dismal performance.

However, after one month of the tournament, Wood went back to England to play for his County side Durham.

Imran Tahir:

Imran Tahir didn’t have the best of the IPL seasons. The veteran Proteas spinner was also given limited opportunities. However, the leg-spinner failed to leave a mark with his performances.

Tahir played only six matches for the Men in Yellow in which he scalped six wickets. The experienced spinner gave away his runs at a higher economy of 9.09.

As Chennai Super Kings already has leg-spinner in Karn Sharma, they may kick out the 39-year-old Tahir.
