India kicked off their World Cup campaign on a high, beating wounded South Africa by six wickets at Rosel Bowl, Southampton on 5th June. Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant hundred off 128 balls, which is his 2nd in the World Cup, to help his side get their first win of the ICC World Cup 2019. Rohit Sharma took his time as there was no pressure of scoring runs at a higher strike rate.

In fact, the right-hander had the rub of the green on his side when he was dropped by Faf du Plessis when he was only on nine runs. Furthermore, the stylish batsman had some close calls when he was troubled by the short stuff from Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris.

Rohit Sharma played a mature inning.

However, Rohit Sharma was able to weather the storm as he showed the resistance to get his team on top. It was a mature knock from Rohit Sharma as he batted with responsibility.

Earlier, South Africa posted 227 after their skipper won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the Proteas could not get off to a good start as they lost two early wickets of both their openers.

Jasprit Bumrah was right on the money and he was able to able to produce the outside edge of Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock. Amla did not move his feet and Rohit Sharma took a good catch at second slip.

de Kock’s dismissal was beautifully set up by Virat Kohli when the Indian skipper left a big gap on the off side. Kohli then moved himself to third slip where he took a sharp catch while his finger pointing up.

Chahal was right on the money.
