Allan Donald says Dale Steyn is the best fast bowler South Africa have ever produced.

Legendary Proteas fast bowler, Allan Donald has picked Dale Steyn as the greatest fast bowler ever to play international cricket for South Africa.

In the recent times, Kagiso Rabada has proved to be quite a sensation. He has tormented many star batters in the past and can surpass Steyn as per stats.

However, Donald is of the opinion that Dale Steyn is the best fast bowler that the Proteas have ever produced.

Steyn made his Test debut for South Africa way back in 2004. Till now, he has been part of the South African Playing XI in 86 Tests. Steyn has bagged 419 wickets and it just a couple of wickets away to become South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in Tests.

If he reaches the milestone, Steyn will break the record of another South African great, Shaun Pollock.

“I’m just in admiration of his consistency, and that’s how you judge champion, fast bowlers,” Donald, who is also the Proteas’ former bowling coach, told Sky Sports. You look at his strike-rate, his passion for the game, his hunger to be a champion bowler and to lead from the front,” Donald added.

Donald was one of the best fast bowlers in the world during his prime. Known as the “White Lightning”, Donald bagged 330 wickets in his Test career.

Donald had witnessed the form of Dale Steyn while playing for Hampshire. Steyn had for the Hampshire County side.

That’s what sets him apart from everyone else. He is unequivocally the best fast bowler South Africa has ever produced,” said Donald. “I just hope he stays fit.” he further added.

Steyn in all likelihood will make his return to international cricket for the tour of Sri Lanka. The Proteas is slated to play a couple of Tests, five ODI’s and a solitary T20I.
