Veteran South Africa pacer Dale Steyn is all set for a new challenge after joining Euro T20 Slam. The Proteas star has joined the tournament as a marquee player. The first edition of the much-awaited Euro T20 Slam will kickstart from August 30. The tournament will have six teams, two each based in Ireland, Netherlands and Scotland. The three countries will jointly host the tournament.

Apart from Steyn, the other five icon/marquee players of the league are –  Shahid Afridi, Chris Lynn, Shane Watson, Babar Azam, Brendon McCullum and Luke Ronchi. The league will not be short on star power as quite a number of big names have signed up. The likes of Eoin Morgan, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir and Rashid Khan will also ply their trade in the inaugural Euro T20 Slam.

Steyn, who recently suffered a heartbreaking exit from the ongoing World Cup, will be looking to hit the ground running. The legendary pacer made an international comeback last season after a sustained injury-enforced absence from the game. However, an injury that he sustained in the Indian Premier League forced him to pull out of the World Cup without playing a game.

Prior to that, Steyn had become South Africa’s highest ever wicket-taker in Test matches. Soon after that, Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him up as an injury replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile. Styen made a mark straightaway but had to withdraw from the IPL after just two games due to a shoulder injury.

The Euro T20 Slam will be an opportunity for him to show he still has it in him. The veteran pacer is unlikely to continue for long in international cricket especially in limited-overs cricket. A good performance in the upcoming tournament might help him prolong his international career.

South Africa, meanwhile, have exited the World Cup at the group stage. They are currently eighth in the points table with 5 points and will one more league game.
