Pat Cummins stocks rose ten-fold in the recently concluded auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Having made his Test debut as a teenager in the year 2011, the New South Wales quick couldn???t play another game for another six years. He made his comeback to the Australian Test side in 2017 against India in the four-match series. Since then, the 26-year old hasn???t looked back. South African pace ace Dale Steyn named the Australian speedster as the best fast bowler in the ongoing era.

At the beginning of 2019, Cummins reached the summit of the ICC Test bowling rankings, toppling the South African speedster Kagiso Rabada. Despite the national team going downhill in 2018, the New South Wales-born was one of the shining lights, carrying the team???s hopes on his shoulder single-handedly, especially against India. Cummins currently leads the wicket-taking charts, having snapped 54 wickets in 11 Tests at an average of 20.61 in 2019.

The 26-year old became the costliest overseas payer in the auction of the thirteenth season of the IPL held in Kolkata on the 19th of December. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals went fiercely after him before Kolkata Knight Riders dived in to seal his deal for an amount of INR 15.50 crores. Cummins??? best season came in 2017 when he snapped 15 wickets in 12 games for Delhi Daredevils. Meanwhile, Dale Steyn was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second round of the auction.
Australia eye a series win in Melbourne in the second Test:
In the meantime, Pat Cummins is currently featuring for Australia against New Zealand in the three-match Test series. The Baggy Greens have taken a lead of 1-0, having earned the victory by 296 runs in Brisbane. The number one Australian Test bowler finished with three wickets in the match. The two sides move on to Melbourne for the boxing day Test starting on the 26th of December where the home side may seal the series.
