South Africa’s veteran fast bowler Dale Steyn, who returned to action in the Mzansi Super League is eyeing the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia. Incidentally, Steyn retired from Test cricket earlier this year to prolong his career in the limited-overs format.

Steyn has been in and out of action for quite some time now. He has suffered badly with his ankle and back in the last few years. However, the most saddening of all was when Dale Steyn was ruled out of ICC World Cup 2019 which saw South Africa bow out from the group stages.

The consistent injuries forced Steyn to give-up red-ball cricket and focus more on limited-overs. However, he made a stunning return to the field claiming three wickets conceding 25 runs for the Cape Town Blitz against defending champions Jozi Stars. Blitz, who played in the MSL 2018 title round, won the inaugural match of MSL 2019 by 15 runs.

Speaking about his game, Dale Steyn admitted that he is fully fit and is raring to go for the Proteas. He also made his intentions clear that he is eyeing the T20 World Cup in Australia and put his best feet forward.

“I’m ready and raring to go. Yip, it is, the T20 World is a realistic target, otherwise I would have retired altogether when I retired from Test cricket earlier this year,” Steyn said to MyKhel.

Dale Steyn has 439 wickets from 93 Tests, 196 wickets from 125 ODIs and 61 wickets from 44 T20Is. He is one of the best fast bowlers to have played the game in the modern era. Steyn has not played any competitive games until the MSL opener since May but feels currently he is in the best shape to go for South Africa.

The Proteas, who are going through a tough phase, need to bounce back strongly. After the dismal World Cup campaign, they suffered humiliating defeats against India in T20Is and Test cricket.

“Hopefully, there won’t be any ring-rust, I’ve had a good bunch of people in Cape Town who have looked after me for the last 3 months and we’ve had a couple of warm-up games so I’m ready to go,” Steyn concluded.
