Danish Kaneria Will Say Anything For Money: Javed Miandad
Former Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad has come down hard on Danish Kaneria as the country is facing criticism once again for its treatment of minorities. Former Pakistan pace spearhead Shoaib Akhtar left everyone utterly surprised by revealing that Danish Kaneria faced discrimination in the Pakistan team because of being a Hindu.
Akhtar alleged that the players were not even ready to eat from the same table with Danish Kaneria and the latter never got credits for his fine performances. After Akhtar’s allegations, Danish Kaneria also stated the same and threatened to expose the players who mistreated him because of his religion. Not only that, the ex-leg-spinner also asked for help from Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Javed Miandad on the Danish Kaneria row:
While the cricketing world is busy supporting Danish Kaneria, Javed Miandad has lashed out at him. The ex-cricketer stated that Kaneria couldn’t have played for Pakistan if the country had bias towards its minority Hindu community.
“Pakistan has given him so much recognition and he played for 10 years in Test cricket. Would this have been possible if there was any issue over his religion,” Javed Miandad told PTI.
Miandad noted that even when Kaneria was playing, Pakistan had the option of going for leg-spinners like Imran Tahir (who later played for South Africa), Ali Hussain Rizvi and even Mansoor Amjad but he was selected.
“So how is this possible if he ever faced any bias over his being a Hindu,” Javed Miandad said before adding: “In Pakistan cricket, we have never had any bias over religion.”
Javed Miandad concluded by slamming Kaneria and questioning his credibility as a cricketer. He took a shot at Kaneria’s involvement in spot-fixing in English county games that saw him getting slapped with life-ban.
“What are they trying to achieve I don’t understand. But if you talk about Kaneria, he will say anything for money and he has no credibility left in cricket,” the former skipper said.
“How can you believe someone who is serving a life ban for corruption in cricket? Who let down his country? I was head coach of the Pakistan team in early 2000s and Kaneria was in the team and I don’t remember a single incident where there was ever any issue about his being a Hindu,” he added.
