Danushka Gunathilaka Records Statement Before Police Over Alleged Rape Charges

The Kollupitya Police has recorded the statement of Sri Lankan Test batsman, Danushka Gunathilaka. Earlier, the opening batsman faced the suspension due to alleged rape charges which included a Norwegian Woman.
Gunathilaka and his friend were alleged to have taken two Norwegian women to the hotel where the player was staying in Colombo on Sunday (July 22).
However, on the same day, the Kollupitya police arrested a 26-year-old Sri Lankan holding the passport of United Kindom (UK).
Police arrested the Sri Lanka-based British-passport holder when Norwegian Woman registered a complaint stating that she got raped at the hotel.
According to the woman, she was raped on Saturday (July 21) in a hotel at Kollupitiya.
The 26-year-old “is under arrest, and we are continuing our investigations,” a police official said. “A Norwegian tourist made the complaint of rape.”
Police on his involvement:
The Kollupitya Police, however, ruled out the involvement of Danushka in the rape case.
According to the police, the two ladies including a victim woman and her friend came to visit Sri Lanka on July 15.
The Sri Lankan cricketer had managed to remain in touch with one of a woman through social media, reports suggested.
As per the investigations, the Sri Lankan cricketer paid the bills of his friend, had allegedly raped the Norwegian woman when the cricketer was asleep in the same room.
Suspension from Sri Lankan Cricket Board:
Although Danushka Gunathilaka participated in the second Test which was going on during the incident. However, he faced suspension when police intervened.
Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) suspended him on Sunday night due to “misconduct” behaviour.
“The cricket board will also “withheld Gunathilaka’s fee for the ongoing Test match until the outcome of the inquiry,” it said.
