Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has analysed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s squad and what David Warner brings to the table. He has come up with a plethora of analysis ahead of the 13th edition of IPL that includes the swot analysis of all the teams, possible replacements, and their chances of winning the tournament. Aakash Chopra also named David Warner as the GOAT of IPL.
David Warner will return to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2020 for the first time in two years after the franchise decided to give him the position. It was Kane Williamson, who held the spot until now, having guided the team to the finals in 2018. However, under Warner, the Orange Army lifted their first IPL trophy back in 2016. The southpaw also finished the competition as the highest run-getter in 2019 with 692 runs.
Aakash Chopra highlighted David Warner’s expertise against spin-bowling in T20s in sub-continent, hardly getting out to it. The 42-year old went on to say that Warner thwarts the fast bowling attack and uses the first six overs to significant effect, putting pressure on the bowlers.
“He gets stuck against spin when he plays Test cricket in the subcontinent but when he plays T20, especially in the IPL, he doesn’t get out to spin. And he demolishes the fast bowling attack. He makes the best use of the first 6 overs and plays a long innings as well,” Chopra told in his Youtube channel.
Aakash further said that now as a captain, the little dynamite will have a responsibility and a point to prove as well. While Cricket Australia has decided that Warner will never captain the nation again after the Sandpapergate, the explosive opener might want to show them that he remains a good leader.
“And now he is a captain, so he will have more responsibility and he has a point to prove as well. It is already decided that he can never become the Australian captain after the Sandpapergate scandal. So he is getting the captaincy here only and he will want to show that they have made a mistake and that he is still a very good captain,” the former Indian opener mentioned.
“In my opinion, their Tournament Protector is David Warner” : Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator continued saying that Warner is Sunrisers’ tournament protector. Aakash hailed the left-handed batsman for keeping his word of scoring more than 500 runs last year as promised, calling him a GOAT and one of the best overseas cricketers in IPL. With 4706 runs in 126 games, Warner is the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL history.
“In my opinion, their Tournament Protector is David Warner. Last year when he started the season he said that he will score 500 runs and he scored more than that. He is actually an IPL GOAT, if we talk about overseas players then he is actually one of the greatest of all time in the history of the IPL. It is not easy to be so consistent with that strike rate,” he added further.
