Australia star congratulated Rashid Khan after the latter stormed on to the top of the ICC bowler rankings. The Afghanistan spin sensation became the youngest ever to take the numero uno spot in the player ranking list.

The 19-year old joined India pacer Jasprit Bumrah at the top of the rankings released on Tuesday. Rashid achieved the historic feat after taking 16 wickets in the series against Zimbabwe. Afghanistan won the series 4-1. The leg-spinner had also scored 51 runs in two innings including a match-winning 43 off 29 balls.  The batting performance has helped him break into the top five among all-rounders.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in from all around for the star spinner. And Rashid’s Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner also joined the bandwagon. The Australia superstar retweeted a tweet from ICC, describing the leggie’s incredible achievement and wrote: “Legend @rashidkhan_19 well done mate”

The leg-spinner along with Mohammad Nabi had become the first players from Afghanistan to get IPL deals last year. Both the players were signed up by the Hyderabad-based franchise.  Rashid had gone on to justify his franchise’s decision. The star spinner had taken 17 wickets in just 14 games. Furthermore, he had conceded less than seven runs per over.

The franchise has re-signed Rashid for the upcoming season too. The Sunrisers paid a whopping amount of Rs 9 crore to secure the highly-rated spinner’s service.

Rashid Khan also replied to the Australian opener and his captain in the IPL, thanking him for his congratulatory message.

More records awaiting:

The Afghanistan star is marching towards becoming the fastest-ever bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets. In 37 games so far, he has already taken 86 wickets. The teenager needs 14 wickets in as many games to break the record.

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc currently holds the record. The fast-bowler had achieved the feat in just 52 games.  The left-arm pacer had broken the record in 2016 that had stood for almost two decades. Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq had previously held the record after completing his 100 wickets in 53 games.
