Sunrisers Hyderabad have made a massive announcement ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. They have reinstated the explosive Australian opening batsman, David Warner, as the captain. The little dynamite from New South Wales will replace the current Kiwi captain, Kane Williamson, who captained the Orange Army, in the last two seasons of the tournament.

David Warner, who has served as the vice-captain of the Australian national team as well, was removed by Cricket Australia for orchestrating the ball-tampering activity along with Cameron Bancroft. Warner was found to be the mastermind of the infamous fiasco in Cape Town that saw him and then captain Steve Smith serve a ban for a year from playing international cricket while Bancroft copped a ban for nine months. Warner’s one-year banishment also meant that he would never captain Australia again.

And as a result of his actions in 2018, he couldn’t play the IPL that year and Williamson was appointed as the leader. However, the southpaw made a thunderous return in the previous season of the lucrative tournament, bagging the Orange Cap by amassing 692 runs from 11 matches. Apart from the change of captaincy, Hyderabad had earlier also appointed Trevor Bayliss as their head coach and Brad Haddin as their assistant coach.

The 33-year old, who is in South Africa presently, took to Twitter and claimed that he is extremely thankful to have been handed the chance again to captain the Sunrisers. He also extended his thanks to Williamson and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who lead the team in a few games in the Kiwi’s absence and that he would be leaning on them for support.
The one-time IPL winner further thanked the management and the owners for giving him the opportunity and promised the fans to try his best in bringing home the IPL Trophy once again. Under Warner, Sunrisers lifted the trophy in 2016, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final.
“I’m thrilled to be given the captaincy for this coming IPL 2020,” Warner said in a message. I’m extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to lead the team once again. I’d like to thank Kane and Bhuvi for the way you guys led throughout the last couple of years, you guys did an outstanding job. And I’ll be leaning on you guys for support and your insight to the game as well. And to the management thank you once again for giving me this opportunity. And I’ll try my very, very best to lifting that IPL Trophy this year.” Warner conceded.
The thirteenth season of the IPL begins from the 29th of March.
