David Warner, who has been entertainingly spending his quarantine period, revealed his ultimate goal in cricket. The southpaw has his eye on the 2023 World Cup that would be contested entirely in India. At the same time, he is also firm that the upcoming T20 World Cup in India is the best time for the selectors to introduce some new talents to prepare for a future beyond the 2023 tournament.

Warner understands that there are plenty of younger blokes knocking on the door, who deserve a look-in and a taste of playing at the highest level. It was through T20 cricket that the southpaw himself started his career for Australia back in 2009. In 73 T20Is so far, he has 2207 runs with a ton and 17 half-centuries.

“There’s back to back Twenty20 World Cups, and I started my career with T20 cricket, and I think it’s important we’ve got younger kids coming through and they get a sniff and a chance of playing at this level as well.” Warner said as quoted by Cricket.com.au

David Warner claims that Aaron Finch may hung up his boots after the 2023 World Cup as well:

David Warner and Aaron Finch, who have remained at the heart of Australia’s white-ball cricket for long would turn 36 in three years. Hence, both may probably call time on their careers. The New South Wales hard-hitter reckons that their absence would open up a few spots in the side. Furthermore, by the time their departure time arrives, they would take the opportunity to nurture the upcoming lads.

“We’re seeing a lot of guys and talent coming through Australian cricket and I think it’s important we’re leaving those opportunities open there. It gives us time to nurture those guys coming through and gives the selectors the time to pinpoint as to who they want as openers for Australian cricket.”

“At that stage, you will probably get two spots open in the team with me and Finchy. He wants to go to that World Cup in three years’ time as well so there’s going to be a few spots available after that.” he stated further.
