England all-rounder, David Willey has extended his contract with Yorkshire for one year that will run until the end of 2019, a media release confirmed.

Meanwhile, Willey recently revealed how the club had threatened to “rip up” his contract after Chennai Super Kings bagged his service in the IPL 2018.

He also mentioned how County teams can be more free-handed in dealing with such scenarios.

However, the signing puts all speculations to rest and indicates all is well between the two parties.

It took a bit of time to get it sorted out,” Willey told Yorkshire’s official website. “I made it very clear I wanted to play my cricket at Yorkshire and hopefully, as things unfold, it can become a long-term thing and I can contribute to Yorkshire winning trophies over the next few years,” he added.

The 28-year old also admitted he is enjoying his cricket in Yorkshire and hopes to win more trophies for them. He also added he wants to help the next generation to come up in the later stages of his career.

Willey, meanwhile, has been in rich form scoring 131 and 71 in his last two games. He also picked up seven wickets collectively from those matches. He has contributed with 202 runs and 11 wickets in the three games he has played so far.

The all-rounder also reasoned out why it’s just a one-year extension with the club at the moment.

He believes it’s because of the uncertainties that could be with the new competition taking shape for the next year.

In recent times, Willey has been in rich vein of form, scoring a scintillating 131 and 71 in his last two games.

The main reason for it being a short contract is because the new competition is coming in and nobody quite knows how that’s going to look yet. I think it’s best for both parties to see how that unfolds before anyone goes any further. As soon as I can and things become clearer, I’d love to sign a long-term deal at Yorkshire, represent the club in all formats and make myself an important person in the dressing room and around the club,” he added.

In conclusion, Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket Martyn Moxon expressed his delight in extending their relationship with Willey.
