Veteran batsman Robin Uthappa was one of the biggest releases ahead of the upcoming auction for IPL 2020. Kolkata Knight Riders KKR) decided to release the batsman despite the latter being one of the most decorated players in the history of the league. The right-handed batsman first joined the franchise in 2014 and became an instant hit.

Part of the Indian team that won the inaugural World T20, Uthappa had gone on to win the Orange Cap after scoring a staggering 660 runs and helped the team win the title for the second time. Over the years, he established himself as an integral part of the Knight Riders team. He was released by the Knight Riders before the last season too before being signed up by them again by using the Right to Match card. The wicketkeeper-batsman was bought by the franchise for Rs 6.4 crore.

But he failed to live up to the expectation in the last season and the Knight Riders have decided to release him again. He managed just 282 runs in 12 outings at a modest strike-rate of 115.10. The Knight Riders, on the other hand, performed miserably in the second half of the competition and failed to make it to the playoffs.

Robin Uthappa scores timely ton:

Just days after being released by the Knight Riders, Robin Uthappa has sent a timely reminder to the franchise by scoring an impressive century in Ranji Trophy. Playing his first game for Kerala, the former Karnataka and Saurashtra batsman scored 102. He had shifted base from Saurashtra to Kerala earlier this year. Kerala, meanwhile, ended the day on 276 for 3 against Delhi.

With the auction less than a fortnight away, Robin Uthappa’s century must have caught every franchise’s attention. Given his experience, any team would like to have him in its ranks.
