T20 World Cup hopeful Deepak Chahar has suffered a big injury blow just months before the marquee event in Australia. The next T20 World Cup will take place in Australia in October and Deepak Chahar has a good chance of being a part of the squad. However, the recent injury blow could just complicate things for him.
The right-arm pacer, who picked up a memorable 8 for 10 on Ranji Trophy debut in 2010-11, has been a regular feature in Team India’s limited-overs squad after the World Cup. Last month, he was all over the news for blowing away Bangladesh in the third T20I in Nagpur, thus helping India win the match and clinch the series. He had picked up 6 for just 7 runs as India beat Bangladesh by 30 runs to win the series.

The spell also included a hat-trick as Chahar rewrote history books. He became the first Indian to pick up a hat-trick in the shortest format of the game. He also achieved the record of best bowling figures in men’s T20Is. Chahar broke the record of Ajantha Mendis who had the figures of 6 for 8 runs.
Just a couple of days after that sensational performance, he picked up another hat-tick, this time for Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He achieved the feat against Vidarbha. The pace star finished with figures of 4 for 18 in 3 overs which included a hat-trick and a maiden over. He also played in the T20I and ODI series against West Indies before a back injury ruled him out of the third ODI.
Lengthy spell on the sidelines:
Before the third ODI, Deepak Chahar “felt mild pain in his lower back” and was ruled out of the third ODI. And it looks like the injury is much serious than it was initially thought of. According to Sports Tak, the Rajasthan star is now looking set to remain on the sidelines till April. It would be a big blow for his T20 World Cup aspirations.
Deepak Chahar could also miss the start of the IPL which is set to get underway towards the end of March. He will miss the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, ODI series against Australia and the tour of New Zealand. In his absence, India are likely to try out Navdeep Saini as the third pacer and the latter could pretty much seal his spot in the team.
